The Half Double Shawl

A simple, but dense asymmetrical shawl for beginner crocheters.

 

 

Materials:

6.5mm/US K crochet hook

1 cake of Caron Big Cakes in the Cookies N Cream colorway

  • Or 600-650 yards of any worsted weight yarn

Stitch marker (optional)

Scissors

Tapestry needle

 

Gauge:

Not necessary for this project

Pattern Notes:

  • Turning chains at the beginning of row count as the first stitch of the row. When the pattern says to work into the last stitch, you can either work into the top of the turning chain, or into the turning chain space.

Stitch Glossary:

ch – chain

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

 

Setup:

 

Row 1: Chain 4, 2hdc in 3rd chain from hook, dc in last chain, turn. (4 sts)

Row 2: Chain 2, hdc in same stitch, hdc in every stitch across, turn. (5 sts)

 

Repeat:

 

Row 1: ch2, hdc in next stitch, hdc to last two stitches, 2hdc in second to last stitch, dc in last stitch, turn.

Row 2: ch2, hdc in same stitch, hdc in every stitch across, turn.

 

Optional: Place a locking stitch marker at the beginning of Row 2 to mark the increasing edge.

 

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until you run out of yarn, ending with Row 2.

 

Cut yarn and weave in ends.

 

Block as needed.
